JPG vs WebP
JPG (also written JPEG) is lossy and has no transparency. It is the standard for photos because it keeps files small.
WebP, from Google, supports both lossy and lossless compression plus transparency, and is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality.

Frequently asked questions
Is this image converter really free?
Yes. There are no limits, watermarks or sign-ups, because conversion uses your own device rather than our servers.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Files are read and converted by JavaScript in your browser tab. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly. For photos that usually means a larger file than JPG or WebP. Use PNG for graphics and screenshots.
Can I convert to AVIF?
Only if your browser can encode AVIF. The AVIF option is disabled when it can’t; decoding AVIF works in all current major browsers.
Does converting keep EXIF data such as location?
No. Re-encoding through a canvas drops EXIF metadata, including GPS location, which is often a privacy bonus.
